Handmade lassos, braided from raw cowhide, are an essential tool for the baqueanos to work with and control cattle. A wooden pole, or "palenque," aids in the restraint the cattle during branding. Lasso burns from heavy and unruly animals leave deep marks in the palenque after years of use.
