The Rainbow Family of Living Light The Rainbow Family of Living Light claims to be one of the largest non-organizations of non-members anywhere in the world. Every year the “family” gathers for a national gathering somewhere in the United States, July 1st - 7th. The most important day is July 4th when silence is respected until noon. All present join hands and forms concentric circles in a large meadow, praying for peace worldwide. Different groups, some based on similar religious principals, others on lifestyle choices, sometimes simply a group of friends, create “kitchens” and “camps” in the woods. Examples include “Lovin’ Ovens” (homemade baked goods), “Sundar” (hosted by Hare Krishnas, serves chai and curried deliciousness), and “Nic at Night” (“If you need a cigarette we got a cigarette...”) are just several names of hundreds of kitchens.
